Aston Villa are planning to reinforce their attacking options with a January move for Newcastle striker Michael Owen, according to reports. The Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill, has been interested in reinforcing his front line for some time, especially in response to his club’s hectic schedule this season.
Currently, O’Neill has only Gabby Agbonlahor, John Carew and Marlon Harewood to call on as first string strikers, with 17-year-old Nathan Delfouneso in reserve.
Although competition for places is at its most healthy since O’Neill arrived at the club in 2006, the manager believes that to stay in competition with the ‘Big Four’ clubs in the second half of the Premier League campaign, and fulfil the club’s Uefa Cup and FA Cup commitments, he will need to bring in support.
